Homeland Security Assistant Inspector General Frank Deffer told Congress on Tuesday that the agency is not prepared for a mass amnesty, and Congress should consider this if and when they take up comprehensive immigration reform. Deffer called a mass amnesty "the mother of all backlogs."

HARRY REID SAYS THERE WILL BE A BILL
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the crowd that comprehensive immigration reform, which has been recently overshadowed by health care and economic debates, would become a top priority for Congress. Reid said the legislation would include border security and a guest worker program for seasonal workers.
"For those that are undocumented, we're going to make some rules; of course they'll be understandable," Reid said. "We're going to make sure there will be a penalty or a fine. People will have to work, pay taxes and stay out of trouble and learn English. Not so bad, is it?"
The Senate majority leader also discussed re-examining employer sanctions for hiring illegal immigrants. Reid said he wants to enact the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, also known as the DREAM Act.
The proposed legislation allows certain students, who came to the United States illegally as minors, to obtain temporary residency to finish high school and continue on to college or the military. Eventually, they can become naturalized through this process.
"We need to do this this year," Reid said. "We cannot let excuses, like a Supreme Court nomination, get in the way."
Activists are demanding a reform bill in front of Congress by April 30, a day before International Workers' Day, which celebrates immigrant workers around the world.

From a post on ALIPAC:
AT the 17:00 minute mark, Congressman Luis Gutierrez answers a question about the timing of CIR in the Senate. He explains that there will be a window of opportunity for CIR between Memorial Day (May 31) and the 4th of July. He knows that the Senate will not bring CIR to a vote during May, because of the financial regulation bill on the floor. But IF the Senate introduces CIR by May 1st, then the Judiciary can make the mark ups, the Senate can make time to debate it.
He adds: "Because if you don't do it by July the 4th, and we go on recess like on the 2nd, July the 2nd. I think its a Friday, we go on recess and we haven't done this on the Senate, not in the House, but on the Senate; then when are we gonna do it? You know whats gonna happen next. During of all of July, confirmation of the next Supreme Court Justice. The Juidiciary can't deal with CIR and confirmation at the same time. Then comes August and we are in recess."

Why we need all the states to pass a law like Arizona's:
It's illegal to cross the border, but not illegal to be here.... so says the liberal, activist judge who has messed everything up royally.
